Principal's Message
George Dewey Elementary School is located in the Midway area of San Diego. The majority of
students live in Liberty Station and Gateway Village, military-dependent housing developments bordering
the school. Families living in apartments and several motels make up the remainder of the school
community. The community is bordered on all sides by commercial or government facilities. Dewey also
serves students on site through our Child Development Center (CDC). Students identified for the Gifted
and Talented Education (GATE) program are served in the third and fourth grades. The multiethnic student
body lends itself to the building of a positive cultural environment.
Our California Achievement Test (CAT/6) scores last year showed generally good results, with
significant gains made in mathematics. We offer after-school tutoring and intersession classes for students
needing additional academic assistance.
